April 2024

The Board of Directors of The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County extends its warmest congratulations to Nancy Brockenshire on her transition to the role of Executive Director at Windsor Essex Community Health Centre (weCHC).

During her time with Hospice, Nancy has played a pivotal role in driving the organization forward, championing new initiatives, while continuing to offer the memorable care Hospice has been known for over the last 45 years.

“On behalf of the board, we congratulate Nancy on her new role at weCHC,” said Mary Beth Valentine, Hospice Board Chair. “We are grateful for Nancy’s dedication and leadership, and we wish her every success in this exciting new chapter.”

In light of Nancy’s departure, The Hospice Board of Directors announces Katharen Bortolin as the new Executive Director, effective May 10, 2024. Katharen is currently the Director of Community Engagement and Advancement at The Hospice, overseeing fundraising, donor relations, and communications for the organization, a position she has held successfully for the past five years.

Katharen not only brings several years of experience in a leadership role at Hospice, and previously at the Windsor Regional Hospital Cancer Program, but she also has a passionate commitment to enhancing local healthcare services and improving patient experiences.

A proud native of Windsor-Essex, Katharen holds two degrees from the University of Windsor—an Honours Bachelor of Arts and Social Science, and a Masters of Business Administration. She also holds the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation. In 2018, Katharen was named to the Top 40 Leaders Under 40 list by Leadership Windsor-Essex, highlighting her leadership abilities and dedication to her community. Additionally, she is the 2021 recipient of the Odyssey Award from the University of Windsor Alumni Association.

In her spare time, Katharen also participates in various community boards and committees, including as a director for Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare and the Windsor International Film Festival.

As part of our integrated healthcare community, weCHC and The Hospice, along with Brockenshire and Bortolin in their respective roles, will continue to collaborate to ensure the well-being and health of our community.
