The Lois Fairley Community Service Award 2024

April 2024

In recognition of the outstanding contribution nurses make to care for residents of Windsor-Essex.

Nominations are now open for the 17th Annual Lois Fairley Nursing Award. Every year, this prestigious award recognizes and honours the Windsor-Essex County “Nurse of the Year.”

The award is named after Lois Fairley, who served at Grace Hospital from 1955 to 1993, including the roles of head nurse and mentor to nursing students. As provincial president of the Ontario Nurses Association, she was an advocate for the nursing profession and the patients in their care. She passed away in 2007.

The award is selected and given by the Windsor-Essex chapter of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) from nominations received from the public. If you, or a loved one, have ever needed nursing care in a hospital, at home, or through our public health nurses, you know the difference that an outstanding nurse makes with patients and their families.

The nomination process is easy: In 500 words or less tell us a story about how a nurse impacted a life of a patient, a family, their workplace, or their community.
