Windsor, ON: Today, the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County kicked-off the month of LOVE with the donation of not one but two new Dodge Grand Caravans thanks to a generosity of the Moroun Family and the Ambassador Bridge Company staff.
“Hospice of Windsor Essex and Carol Derbyshire play an important role in making a difficult time a little easier for our families and loved ones. I’m honored on behalf of the Ambassador Bridge to donate these new vehicles to a cause that helps all of us.” – Matthew Moroun
The Hospice Fairley Family Transportation Program provides over 8,500 rides annually to patients, their caregivers by providing free transportation to medical appointments, treatments and to the Hospice Wellness Centre for programs.
This much needed and generous donation will assist our patients and their loved ones as they travel on their journey of care and wellbeing. “Our 16 volunteer drivers log in over 6,000 hours and thousands of miles annually, so new vans were definitely on our radar, so Matthew’s timing was perfect.” – Carol Derbyshire, Hospice Executive Director.
“For an increasing number of individuals lack of transportation severely limits their access to health care. Transportation is not a peripheral but rather a core component of quality health care, so this donation provides a vital community service.” – Martin Girash, Chair, Board of Directors, Erie St. Clair LHIN.
The Ambassador Bridge Company’s donation of two vans in 2003 enhanced and expanded the transportation program to what it is today. These new vans will continue to serve our community for years to come.
