June Education Session

Sick of Being Sick:  Understanding Suffering Beyond Symptoms

People living with chronic, serious, and life-limiting illnesses often express being “sick of being sick.” While this statement may reflect physical symptom burden, it can also reveal deeper experiences of grief, identity loss, existential distress, social isolation, and total pain. This session will explore the unique and shared experiences of suffering in chronic and terminal illness, helping hospice palliative care providers, volunteers, and community healthcare professionals recognize and respond to the multidimensional needs of those they support. Through case-based discussion and reflective practice, participants will gain practical approaches to fostering personhood, meaning, dignity, and compassionate care throughout the illness trajectory and at end of life.
