The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County held their annual volunteer awards Thursday night.

Several individuals and organizations that have made a contribution to hospice during the last year recognized. Among those receiving awards were Dr. Mary Broga, Joan McSweeney, BMO Bank of Montreal and several other young people who have become involved with hospice.

Over the past year, hospice has provided more than 65,000 hours of care, totalling $731,250 in free labour based on minimum wage.

So far in 2016, an average of 120 volunteers per month have given the hospice residential home 12,000 total hours of their time.

Volunteers have also given their time to sit on event planning committees and transportation volunteers have given more than 360 hours a month taking patients to and from medical appointments.
