The 11th annual Face to Face for Hospice fundraiser for the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County has added some new events to help reach its $50,000 fundraising goal, including a Saturday barbecue at Farron’s Gourmet Butcher Shop on Dougall at Cabana from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The six-week campaign recruits 500 canvassers in Windsor-Essex who each go to 10 friends and ask for a $10 donation. All the money raised goes to support the hospice, which helps patients with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Face to Face for Hospice has gone high-tech this year and added the option to send donations in via text message. Text the word DONATE to 30333 to make an instant tax-free donation. You can even text multiple times to make a donation of up to $30 maximum. (BONUS! If you text a donation, you are automatically entered in a draw to win a pair of tickets to see comedian Russell Peters perform at Caesars.)

You can also make a donation online via Canada Helps or sponsor a particular canvasser on the Face to Face website.

The campaign runs from August 15 to September 30. Last year’s campaign raised $66,000 for the hospice. Over the years, the campaign has raised $575,000.

Along with the barbecue, local businesses are hosting special event nights, said John Fairley, the host of the show Face to Face on TV Cogeco and the chair of the campaign.
