It was in September 1992, that a 21-year-old employee of Tim Beaulieu’s complained of a cold that just would not go away. By February of the following year, this bubbly young lady passed away. From that day forward, Tim made a personal commitment to do something in her memory every year.

And so, Hockey for Hospice began....

The first year, Tim and Janet Beaulieu started a Skate-a-thon in memory of thier dear friend and colleague. Over the next few years, the Beaulieu’s, along with Al Broadbent and Paul Pietraszko, and some dedicated volunteers helped the Skate-a-thon evolve into Hockey for Hospice.

Today, Hockey for Hospice has grown to include more than 140 teams, engaging 2,000+ young hockey players. We fill more than 250 hours of ice time spread across eleven ice pads at five arenas over three days.

We are honoured to say that Hockey for Hospice has raised over $2.9 million through the work of our young hockey enthusiasts, who canvass for pledges. The Hockey for Hospice organizers are very proud of the work the children do, and even happier knowing that these kids are participating in their community to raise funds for The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County - all while having fun playing hockey!

Each year Tim, Paul, their families, and Al, along with the rest of their supportive team of volunteers strive to see this event equal or surpass previous successes and continue to honour the memory of their young friend.
