The Hospice Residential Home

The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County Inc. opened the Residential Home in April 2007, where it provides 24-hour care for people with life-threatening illnesses. This service is provided free of charge to eligible residents.

This home complements the existing support we provide to over 800 individuals and families in their homes, or hospitals and in long-term care facilities across Windsor and Essex County each year. Since 1979, nearly 30,000 individuals have been accommodated.

Our goal is to help people and their families facing a progressing life illness to be in a home-like setting, when staying at home is not possible or when a caregiver is unable to continue to provide a safe, secure and sufficient level of support for their loved one.

The Residential Home was the latest addition to Canada’s first Hospice Village. The Hospice Village provides an entire range of compassionate care and services on one site and consist of the Home, the Wellness Centre with all of its programs, our Pain and Symptom Management Clinic and the Children’s House.

Inside our Home
There are a total of eight large suites in the residential home. Each bedroom is filled with natural light and has a sitting area and a fireplace. Family members and friends of residents are able to enjoy music, TV  or conversation.

A Registered Nurse and Personal Support Worker provide around the clock care for the residents of the home. Hospice Volunteers also play a very large role in the home by providing care for residents and their families. They fulfill roles in the areas of patient care assistance, reception, food preparation, housekeeping, gardening and maintenance, etc.
