New Beginnings: A Message from Carol Derbyshire and Colleen Reaume

Carol Derbyshire

For 39 years, I have had the privilege to serve as the Executive Director for the Hospice of Windsor & Essex County. It has been my greatest honour to work with you, our community champions, who have embraced and believed in our Hospice from day one. My deepest gratitude to all of our supporters, community partners and thousands of volunteers who have provided the compassion and support needed to help our Hospice become a leader in palliative care.

To our patients and families, you inspire me each and every day. Together we have walked hand-in-hand from pre-diagnosis to bereavement. Your courage as you face a life-alternating diagnosis is truly extraordinary and humbling.

As many of you know, my retirement officially began on November 1st and no one is happier or more confident in the decision made by the Hospice Board to name Colleen Reaume as my successor than me. Be assured that Colleen will provide the leadership needed to move us forward now and well into the future. I just know that you are going to “love her.”

Colleen Reaume

Thank you Carol, I am very excited to be joining the Hospice team!  My thanks to the Hospice Board and search team for giving me this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to follow such an extraordinary leader. It is a tremendous honour to see Hospice through the next phase of growth.

For those of you who don’t know me, I have had the privilege to work within healthcare for over 30 years, most recently as the Director of the Regional Cancer Program, Erie St. Clair. As well as a senior position within Windsor Regional Hospital’s Cancer Program.

Carol has left a remarkable legacy for our community – her kindness, wisdom and spirit has built a solid foundation for Hospice. I am truly excited and honoured to begin this meaningful work and hope that with your help and support, our Hospice continues to move forward.
